Coffee with the Counselors provides each family with an opportunity to meet the entire staff during the month of September.  Designed by grade level, you can come and meet your daughter's counselor, hear a brief overview by the department and ask questions.  Light morning refreshments will be served and we promise to have you on the road no later than 9 am.  All meetings will happen in the Strake Family Cafeteria at St. Agnes and the start time is 8:15 am.
 Senior Parent Information Night

Senior Parent Information Night is 6:30 p.m., Wednesday (Sept. 5), in the Strake Family Cafeteria at St. Agnes Academy. We encourage all senior parents to attend to learn more about the college application process. The college counselors look forward to meeting you and answering all of your questions about college admissions.
 Strategies for Financing College

Strategies for Financing College: Nathan Birney, a financial advisor with Ameriprise Financial Advisors, will conduct a seminar for the SAA and SJ parent community on Wednesday, September, 12th at 6:30 pm in the St. Agnes Academy Choral Room.  This informative session will help you understand financial aid calculations, analyze college costs, evaluate your savings and investment vehicles, and explore a variety of tax implications.  This seminar is open to all our parents regardless of the grade level of your daughter.  Our counseling departments have found that planning early for the cost of a college education allows families to position themselves more effectively.
Junior Fall Parent Information Night

Junior Parent Information Night: The college counselors will host this event on Wednesday,September 19th at 6:30 pm in the St. Agnes Academy Strake Family Cafeteria. This is an excellent opportunity to meet your daughter's counselor and learn about the junior programming at St. Agnes. The college counselors will also be discussing testing, the college admissions process, trending and preparing for
 Mock PSAT

September 22
 9:00AM  Cafeteria Mock PSAT: Kaplan, Inc. will be offering our juniors an opportunity to take a mock PSAT on Saturday, September 22nd.  The test will begin promptly at 9 am and finish around 12 pm. We will be using the St. Agnes Academy Strake Family Cafeteria for the test.  All interested juniors are asked to sign up in mid-September in the counseling office if they plan to participate.  Cost is $5 with proceeds donated to charity.
 Catholic High Schools' College Fair
October 9
 6:30PM  Strake Jesuit
Catholic High Schools' College Fair will be held on Tuesday, October 9th at Strake Jesuit College Preparatory High School in the gyms.  Over 200 colleges will be represented at this year's fair.  We encourage our juniors and seniors to participate.  The event begins at 6:30 pm.
9th Grade Parent Information Night

9th Grade Parent Information Night: This event is an opportunity to meet the 9th grade counselors, and learn about the transition to high school. The transition to high school can be a challenge not only academically but socially and emotionally. We look forward to a stimulating evening as we talk about this change in your daughter's life and yours. The meeting will be held on October 10th at 6:30 pm in the St. Agnes Academy Strake Family Cafeteria. All ninth grade parents are invited.
PSAT

October 17 8:00AM    PSAT: On Wednesday, October 17, 2012, St. Agnes Academy will be administering the PSAT to all of our sophomores and juniors.  The fee for this test has already been paid earlier this year.  All sophomores and juniors will be dismissed following the administration.  We anticipate this occurring around 11:30 am. 
PLAN

October 25
8:00AM    PLAN: The sophomores will take a standardized test called the PLAN on Thursday, October 25th.  The PLAN is the practice ACT test and is designed for sophomores.  The PLAN is an achievement test that measures reading, English, mathematics and science reasoning.  The fee for this test has already been paid.

Sophomore Parent Information Night: We are pleased to welcome Lee Winderman, PhD. as our guest speaker for the evening.  Lee Winderman, PhD. is an experienced family and child therapist.   Topics will include adolescent development, managing conflict, and communication. This meeting will be held on November 28th at 6:30 pm in the St. Agnes Academy Strake Family Cafeteria.
College Panel

 January 10     College Panel:  Members of the Class of 2012 will return to St. Agnes on January 10th to discuss college life with our juniors and seniors during 6th and 7th periods.

An Inside Look at College Admissions: Case Studies for 10th Grade SAA/SJ Parents:  Join the college counselors in the St. Agnes Academy Strake Family Cafeteria on January 16th at 6:30 pm.  This program will give tenth grade parents an inside look at college admissions by reviewing applications and making admission decisions to a selective university. There will be time for questions and answers.
Sycamore Learning Company SAT Seminar

Sycamore Learning Company SAT Seminar: We are pleased to announce that we have entered into a partnership with Sycamore Learning Company to conduct a one day workshop for test preparation.  We have scheduled this for Sunday, January 27, 2013.  It will be held from 1:00 pm to 6:30 pm in the St. Agnes Academy Strake Family Cafeteria.  This one day program is designed for juniors who are preparing for the spring 2013 college testing cycle.
 College Information Night

February 6
6:30PM  St. Agnes Academy  College Information Night: On Wednesday, February 6th, the counseling offices of St. Agnes and Strake Jesuit host an evening designed for sophomore and junior students and their parents.  A variety of topics are presented in small group sessions.  Topics for the 2013 night might include Financial Aid, Engineering, Applying to Texas Public Schools, How a Selective University Crafts a Class, NCAA Rules and Regulations for High School Students and a student panel of four seniors discussing their college process.  The program begins at 6:30 pm in the St. Agnes Auditorium.   
Super Thursday with 9's 
February 7     Super Thursday: on February 7th, the 9th grade counselors will meet with the freshmen to discuss course planning for the 2013-2014 school year. Course selections are made at that time and verified during the spring meetings.

    Course Selections with 10's and 11's:  During the week of February 4th, the counseling department meets with the sophomores and juniors through their theology class to help with course planning and course selection for the 2013-2014 school year.

Sophomore Conference Webcast LIVE
 
February 19-28 March 1-8

    Sophomore Conference Webcast LIVE:  The SAA Guidance Department is excited to launch a new webcast system specifically designed for the sophomore class and their parents.  During this 2012-2013 school year, we are introducing the webcast in lieu of our traditional sophomore conference.  With this webcast, we hope to provide the sophomore class a thorough and consistent base of knowledge for college and academic planning. Additional topics covered include: understanding the importance of your GPA, a discussion of PSAT and PLAN results, college entrance test prep, taking a second year of foreign language vs. a third, and much more. The information we provide will be easily accessed in the comfort of your own home with SAA counselors as a guide to facilitate the student- parent partnership in planning for the future St. Agnes graduate.  Sophomore conferences will still be available to each family after viewing the webcast should the family seek further information.  On March 19th, the Guidance Department, which includes the college counselors and counselors of 9th and 10th graders, will provide a sophomore parent informational "Follow-Up" night where families can bring their questions. Webcast sessions begin on February 19th and continue through the first week of March.

Spring Sophomore Parent Night:  The Guidance Department, which includes the college counselors and counselors of 9th and 10th graders, will provide a Spring Sophomore Parent Information night.  This night will serve as an opportunity for follow up questions after viewing the Sophomore Webcast and as a forum for providing further information on specific topics that were identified through the new process. This event will be held on March 19th at 6:30 pm in the St. Agnes Academy Strake Family Cafeteria.

An Evening with the Experts: Senior Parents Tell All

An Evening with the Experts: Senior Parents Tell All:  This event is open to junior SAA.  This evening's program is designed to hear from senior parents who have recently gone through the college admission process with their sons and daughters. This year the event will be held on April 10th at 6:30 pm in the St. Agnes Academy Strake Family Cafeteria.
 ERB for 9th Graders
April 26
    ERB:  On April 26th, the ninth graders we will be given the ERB achievement test. The ERB is an achievement test that measures English, reading and writing and math skills.  We give this test to the 9th graders to assess their progress since the beginning of the year.  
  AP Exams
 May 6 - 17     Advanced Placement Exams:  These tests will be given the weeks of May 6 and May 17th to all students enrolled in any advanced placement classes at St. Agnes or Strake Jesuit.
