Academy News

The Tiger Girls dance team is taking to the stage for "Rock-n-Roar", the annual spring show at 7 p.m. Friday, Apr. 13 and Saturday, Apr. 14. As a tribute to rock and roll music, the 40-member team of dancers will perform to well-known classics in the St. Agnes Academy Auditorium. Tickets can be purchased at the door and are $10 for adults, $5 for students, and faculty, staff, and children under age five are free. For more information, contact Coach Julie Chilton.

Family and friends are invited to attend the Mixed Chorus Spring Concert, 2 p.m. Sunday, Apr. 15 at Houston Baptist University in the Dunham Theater. Hear favorite songs that have been performed during the 2011-2012 school year and watch the 2nd Annual Mixed Chorus video highlighting events and honoring our graduating seniors!

A mandatory rehearsal will be held on the HBU campus 3:30-6 p.m. Thursday, Apr. 12. Transportation to the rehearsal at HBU will not be provided.

“Teens and the Media” will be presented by Sasha McLean, LPC, LMFT at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Apr. 18 at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road. Parents, educators, and counselors are encouraged to attend this free program to understand how teens are affected by the media and how to develop strategies for support and empowerment. Houston Rockets Private School Appreciation Night is Apr. 21. Tickets start at $15 and can be secured by contacting Nick Townsend or calling 713-758-7332.

Counselors' Corner

Join us at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Apr. 10, for "An Evening with an Expert" in the St. Agnes Strake Family Cafeteria. The presenter is Charles Bachman, Senior Associate Director of Admissions at Lafayette College. He will discuss recent trends in college admissions, how college applications are evaluated, and intangibles considered when making a decision about an applicant.

National College Fair comes to Houston with representatives from more than 250 colleges and universities on hand at the Reliant Center from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Apr. 12. For more information about the fair and to register click here.

In preparation for Madonna Day, please have your daughter return the "blue form" AND verification letters to report all scholarship and award offers she has received from colleges. Seniors are asked to return the information to their social science teacher no later than Wednesday, Apr. 11.They will be listed in the Madonna Day program without numeric value.

Junior students are reminded that Part A of their reflection sheet is due on May 1, 2012. Part B will be released on the website on June 4, 2012. Students are reminded to be thoughtful and thorough when completing both parts of their reflections as this greatly aids the counselors when writing letters of recommendation in the fall.

Dads' Club

Currently the St. Agnes Dads’ Club mission is to facilitate the following:
1) Leadership and support of the St. Agnes Academy community
2) Community service through action
3) Social events and fun
4) Education and enlightenment through expert guest speakers

Please take a few minutes to complete five questions in a brief survey that will help us evaluate current activities and plan for next year. To ensure privacy, you will need your Academy Connection login.

The dads will have a surprise event on Apr. 11.

The Annual Powder Puff Football Game will be held on the SAA fields behind the school at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Apr. 12. We need three volunteers to help with the sideline markings. Please contact Tommy Calais for any Dads’ Club plans. The Dads' Club will be cooking and serving hotdogs at the event.

The St. Agnes Academy "Blessing of the Fields" for the new Athletics Complex will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Apr 22. We need volunteers to help facilitate transportation from SAA to the fields and back. The volunteer should have a permit to drive a large bus. If interested, please contact Lori Pinter.

Mothers' Club

Join Sr. Jane, Archbishop Fiorenza, elected officials, and SAA students and parents for what promises to be a delightful afternoon of friends and refreshments. at the Blessing of the Fields. Dress is casual or SAA Spirit Wear attire. Kindly RSVP online at blessing.eventbrite.com. We also need volunteers to help set up the refreshments that day; we have two shifts: 1:45-3 p.m. and 3- 4:15 p.m.; please email Nancy Loncarich if you can help.

It's not too early to start thinking about the used book sale on May 24. Contact organizer Maria Flores if you are able to volunteer.

Thanks to our nominating committee members MaryDaire Delouche, Joni Fichter, Abby Linesch, Alice Rohrman, and Marilyn Taylor. They put together the Board for the 2012-2013 school year that was voted in at our meeting on Wednesday. The new Board is as follows: President-Nancy Loncarich; President-Elect-Jeanne Klein; Treasurer-Leslie Morgan; Recording Secretary-Leigh Stubbs; Corresponding Secretary-Stephanie Berno; Parliamentarian-Becky Healey; Historian-Maureen Swanson; and Volunteer Coordinator-Georgia Butta.

And finally, 'thank you' to Alicia Ten Eyck and her team of fabulous volunteers who helped welcome our new students with refreshments Wednesday evening.

Athletics & Booster Club

Thanks to everyone who helped Wednesday with the 9th grade registration. We have a lot of potentially great athletes in the class of 2016.

We are excited to tell you that our golf team finished 4th in the regional meet and qualified for the state finals. - Good luck girls!

Lacrosse hosted Senior Night Wednesday and had a great win against Houston Christian 16-7. JV Track & Field finished as the city champions; varsity will take part in district play on Apr. 12. Softball continues to have success and will play at home vs Beaumont Kelly on Apr. 10 and vs Incarnate Word on Apr. 13. Water Polo is preparing for regionals by playing at home vs Clear Creek on Apr. 10 and vs Clear Lake on Apr. 11.

Team parents, start sending me action photos of your seniors that we can display during the sports banquet. Please remember that our next meeting is Wednesday, Apr. 11 in the choral room, with light dinner at 6:15 p.m. and the business meeting at 6:30 p.m..
