Parent Reflection Sheet for Class of 2013: Each year the college counselors ask the rising seniors to complete a self-reflection sheet and resume that assists their college counselor in writing their letter of recommendation to colleges and universities. In addition, we give parents the opportunity to share their thoughts on their daughter and her college process by completing a parent reflection sheet. We ask that parent reflection sheets be returned to the counseling office by
Friday, March 9th. Click
here to view the document in PDF and Word format. In addition, parents have the option to
print the document and complete it by hand. After completing the parent reflection sheet, please print the document and ask your daughter to bring it to Ms. Maher or mail it directly to our office to Ms. Maher's attention.
College Information Night Reminder: Join us at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7th, in the St. Agnes Academy Auditorium for the
SAA/SJ joint College Information Night for junior and sophomore students and their parents.
The evening will provide families with the opportunity to hear about a
variety of topics, including financial aid, engineering, applying to
public state schools, liberal arts colleges, visual and performing arts
schools, how a selective college/university crafts a freshman class, and
NCAA rules and regulations for high school students. Also, back by
popular demand is our student panel of four seniors discussing their
college process this year and answering questions about their
experiences. In addition, we will have a panel that includes parents of
current seniors who will share their experiences as their child
navigated through the college admissions process. Representatives from
Boston College, The University of Tulsa, Stonehill College, University
of Houston, Louisiana State University, Loyola University New Orleans,
Trinity University, Southern Methodist University, and The University of
Texas at Austin will be leading the presentations. It is a wonderful
opportunity to hear firsthand about the college process, so we hope to
see all of you there!
Online Registration for Sophomore Parent/Student Conferences:
Sophomores and their parents are invited to meet with one of the six
counselors for a sophomore conference. The sophomore conferences allow
us to review the PLAN and the PSAT, discuss curriculum choices for the
junior year and begin the exploration around the college-admissions
process. Conferences are 30 minutes in length and occur Feb. 21 - April 3. Parents should have received an e-mail with instructions on how
to sign up for a conference online. The online sign-up will be
available from Jan. 30 - Feb. 10. Please check with your daughter before
scheduling an appointment so that she does not miss a core academic
class. Families that do not sign up online will be assigned a date and
time with one of the counselors. To register for sophomore conference,
please click
here.
Value of a Liberal Arts Education: Since the college search is now in full force, another topic that may be surfacing at the dinner table discussion is: life after college. What kind of career will my daughter have? Will she be happy? Check out this
USA Today article,
"Liberal Arts Education Lends an Edge in Down Economy" on the value of a liberal arts education.
Junior and Sophomore Parents: Join us Tuesday, April 10th, for
An Evening with a College Admissions Expert with Charles Bachman, Senior Associate Director of Admissions from Lafayette College, who will discuss what is trending now for women's majors in liberal arts programs and how a liberal arts education can benefit your daughter. We hope this evening will help answer questions you may have about student life and the academic programs of a liberal arts school.
Course Selections for 9th, 10th and 11th gradersNext
year's course selections will be made in Theology classes during the
week of February 6th-10th. We encourage students to choose their
courses wisely and judiciously as a college preparatory curriculum
demands time and focus. It is recommended that all students consider an
open lab when possible as it offers time for study and homework during
the day. For athletes, we strongly advise choosing an open lab during
the semester that corresponds with their sport. Preparation for course
selections has been happening with the 9th, 10th and 11th graders in
group guidance and individual advisory sessions to review their
curriculum. In anticipation of the course selection process, we suggest
that you review the curriculum guide which is located on the St. Agnes
website
for specific questions regarding our courses. Necessary course
selection changes will be made through May 11, 2012 (or for 9's after
they meet with their counselor) and will be considered final after that
time.
Parents of ninth graders, please reference the following
link
to view a presentation that will be given to the 9th graders through
their health classes on January 30th. This presentation is offered as a
guide specifically to 9th graders as they anticipate making their
course selections. Please remember we will meet with all 9th graders in
an individual advisory session after spring break to review their
course selection for next year, make any necessary changes, and create a
four year plan.
Students are encouraged to see their counselor if they have any questions.
Mid-Year Reports have been sent:
A mid-year report is prepared once the seventh semester grades are
ready. Once all the grades for the 7th semester have been entered into
the system, the guidance office will prepare the transcripts that show
first semester senior grades. Your daughters have filled out their
request forms so that we are aware of each and every school that needs
to see your daughter's fall grades. We began sending mid-year reports
electronically and by mail early this week and colleges should be in
receipt of the grades shortly.
