  Information Opportunities for 2013-2014 
 
  Coffee with the Counselors - 9's August 23, 10's August 28, 11's August 27, 12's August 21
Time: 8:15 - 9:00 a.m.
Location: Cafeteria
Coffee with the Counselors provides each family with an opportunity to meet the counseling staff during the month of August. Designed by grade level, come and meet your daughter's counselor, hear a brief overview by the department and ask questions. Light morning refreshments will be served and we promise to have you on the road no later than 9:00 a.m. All meetings will happen in the Strake Family Cafeteria at St. Agnes. This year's Coffee with the Counselors for 12th grade parents will include 2013 updates regarding The University of Texas at Austin and Texas A&M University which will conclude by 9:30 a.m.

 
  Senior Parent Information Night - August 28
Time: 6:30 p.m.
Location: Cafeteria
Senior Parent Information Night is Wednesday (August 28), in the Strake Family Cafeteria at St. Agnes Academy. We encourage all senior parents to attend to learn more about the college application process. The college counselors look forward to meeting you and answering all of your questions about college admissions.

 
  Strategies for Financing College - September 11
Time: 6:30 p.m.
Location: Fleming Room B
Nathan Birney, a financial advisor with Ameriprise Financial Advisors, will conduct this seminar for the SAA and SJ parent community in the St. Agnes Academy Fleming Room B. This informative session will help you understand financial aid calculations, analyze college costs, evaluate your savings and investment vehicles, and explore a variety of tax implications. This seminar is open to all our parents regardless of the grade level of your daughter. Our counseling departments have found that planning early for the cost of a college education allows families to position themselves more effectively.

 
  Junior Parent Information Night - September 18
Time: 6:30 p.m.
Location: Cafeteria
The college counselors will host this event on Wednesday, September 18th in the St. Agnes Academy Strake Family Cafeteria. This is an excellent opportunity to meet your daughter's counselor and learn about the junior programming at St. Agnes. The college counselors will also be discussing testing, the college admissions process, trending and preparing for senior and year and the college application process. Light snacks will be served.

 
  Mock PSAT - September 21
Time: 9:00 a.m.
Location: Cafeteria
Kaplan, Inc. will be offering our juniors an opportunity to take a mock PSAT on Saturday, September 21. The test will begin promptly at 9 a.m. and finish around 12 p.m. in the St. Agnes Academy Strake Family Cafeteria. All interested juniors are asked to sign up in mid-September in the counseling office if they plan to participate. Cost is $5 with proceeds donated to charity.

 
  Catholic High Schools' College Fair - October 9
Time: 6:30 p.m.
Location: Strake Jesuit
Catholic High Schools' College Fair will be held on Wednesday, October 9 at Strake Jesuit College Preparatory High School in the gyms. Over 200 colleges will be represented at this year's fair. We encourage our juniors and seniors to participate.

 
  PSAT/NMSQT - October 16
Time: 8:30 a.m.
On Wednesday, October 16, 2013, St. Agnes Academy will be administering the PSAT to all our sophomores and juniors. The fee for this test has already been paid earlier this year. All sophomores and juniors will be dismissed following the administration. We anticipate this occurring around 11:30 a.m.

 
  9th Grade Parent Information Night - October 23
Time: 6:30 p.m.
Location: Cafeteria
This event is an opportunity to meet the 9th grade counselors, and learn about the transition to high school that can be a challenge not only academically but socially and emotionally. We look forward to a stimulating evening as we talk about this change in your daughter's life and yours. The meeting will be held on October 23 in the St. Agnes Academy Strake Family Cafeteria. All ninth grade parents are invited.

 
  PLAN - October 24
Time: 8:00 a.m.
The sophomores will take a standardized test called the PLAN on Thursday, October 24. The PLAN is the practice ACT test and is designed for sophomores. The PLAN is an achievement test that measures reading, English, mathematics and science reasoning. The fee for this test has already been paid.

 
  Sophomore Parent Information Night - November 13
Time: 6:30 p.m.
Location: Cafeteria
We are pleased to welcome Lee Winderman, PhD. as our guest speaker for the evening. Lee Winderman, PhD. is an experienced family and child therapist. Topics will include adolescent development, managing conflict, and communication.

 
  College Panel - January 7
Members of the Class of 2013 return to St. Agnes to discuss college life with our juniors and seniors during 4th, 5th and 6th periods.
 
  Looking Ahead: An Evening for Sophomore Parents - January 22
Time: 6:30 p.m.
Location: Cafeteria
Join the college counselors in the St. Agnes Academy Strake Family Cafeteria. The purpose of this night's program is to discuss our college counseling philosophy, the activities coming your daughter's way and things you should anticipate. There will be time for questions and answers.

 
  Sycamore Learning Company SAT Seminar - January 26
Time: 1:00 - 6:30 p.m.
Location: Cafeteria
We are pleased to announce that we have entered into a partnership with Sycamore Learning Company to conduct a one day workshop for test preparation. We have scheduled this for Sunday, January 26, 2014 in the St. Agnes Academy Strake Family Cafeteria. This one day program is designed for juniors who are preparing for the spring 2014 college testing cycle.

 
  Sophomore Conference Webcast LIVE - January 27 to February 24
A webcast system specifically designed for the sophomore class and their parents was introduced in 2012 in lieu of our traditional sophomore conference. With this webcast, we hope to provide the sophomore class a thorough and consistent base of knowledge for college and academic planning. Additional topics covered include: understanding the importance of your GPA, a discussion of PSAT and PLAN results, college entrance test prep, taking a second year of foreign language vs. a third, and much more. The information we provide will be easily accessed in the comfort of your own home with SAA counselors as a guide to facilitate the student-parent partnership in planning for the future St. Agnes graduate. Sophomore conferences will still be available to each family after viewing the webcast should the family seek further information. On February 26, the Guidance Department, which includes the college counselors and counselors of 10th graders, will provide a sophomore parent informational "Follow-Up" night where families can bring their questions.
 
  College Information Night - February 5
Time: 6:30 p.m.
Location: St. Agnes Auditorium
On Wednesday, February 5, the counseling offices of St. Agnes and Strake Jesuit host an evening designed for sophomore and junior students and their parents. A variety of topics are presented in small group sessions. Topics for the 2014 night might include Financial Aid, Engineering, Applying to Texas Public Schools, How a Selective University Crafts a Class, NCAA Rules and Regulations for High School Students and a student panel of four seniors discussing their college process.

 
  Sycamore Learning Company ACT Seminar - February 9
Time: 1:00 - 6:30 p.m.
Location: Fleming Rooms A and B
We are pleased to announce that we have entered into a partnership with Sycamore Learning Company to conduct a one day workshop for test preparation. This one day program on Sunday, February 9, 2014 is designed for juniors who are preparing for the spring 2014 college testing cycle.

 
  Course Selections - 10's February 10-11, 11's February 11-12
During the week of February 4th, the counseling department meets with the sophomores and juniors through their theology class to help with course planning and course selection for the 2014-2015 school year.
 
  Super Thursday for 9's - February 13
The 9th grade counselors will meet with the freshmen to discuss course planning for the 2014-2015 school year. Course selections are made at that time and verified during the spring meetings.
 
  Webinar Follow-Up: Spring Sophomore Parent Night - February 26
Time: 6:30 p.m.
Location: Fleming Rooms A and B
The Counseling Department, which includes the college counselors and counselors of 10th graders, will provide a Spring Sophomore Parent Information night. This night will serve as an opportunity for follow up questions after viewing the Sophomore Webcast and as a forum for providing further information on specific topics that were identified through the new process. This event will be held in Fleming Rooms A and B at St. Agnes Academy.

 
  12th Grade Spring Coffee with the Counselors - March 26
Time: 8:15 a.m.
Location: Cafeteria
Coffee with the Counselors provides each family with an opportunity to meet the entire staff. Designed by grade level, come and meet your daughter's counselor, hear a brief overview by the department and ask questions. Light morning refreshments will be served and we promise to have you on the road no later than 9 a.m. All meetings will happen in the Strake Family Cafeteria at St. Agnes. The college counselors will be accompanied by Dean of Students, Elaine Eichelberger, who will discuss end of year and graduation activities.

 
  11th Grade Spring Coffee with the Counselors - March 27
Time: 8:15 a.m.
Location: Cafeteria
Coffee with the Counselors provides each family with an opportunity to meet the entire staff. Designed by grade level, come and meet your daughter's counselor, hear a brief overview by the department and ask questions. Light morning refreshments will be served and we promise to have you on the road no later than 9 a.m. All meetings happen in the Strake Family Cafeteria at St. Agnes.

 
  Seniors Speaking with Sophomores Panel - March 28
Time: 4th Period
Location: Fleming Rooms A & B, Choral Room
Seniors Speaking with Sophomores Panel is a one-period panel where sophomores will hear about different experiences on the second half of the St. Agnes journey from current seniors. Seniors will address items to focus on in regards to college admissions, the social and emotional experience ahead, the lessons they learned, and what they may have done the same or differently if permitted.

 
  ERB for 9th Graders - April 24
Ninth graders are given the ERB achievement test. The ERB measures English, reading and writing, and math skills. This test assesses each 9th grader's progress since the beginning of the school year.
 
  Advanced Placement Exams - May 5 through 16
These tests are given to all students enrolled in any advanced placement class at St. Agnes or Strake Jesuit. See St. Agnes calendar for dates of specific exams.
