   Financial Aid Frequently Asked Questions

  Financial Aid

Who can apply for financial aid?
Anyone who has submitted an application for admission to St. Agnes Academy may apply. Complete the online application with FAST. If you do not have internet access you can contact Alicia Scalco in the Business Office at 713-219-5452 and schedule an appointment to come to St. Agnes to complete the application online.

What is considered a complete application for Financial Aid?
The following is required before an application can be considered by the committee: (1) the applicant has been accepted by the school, and (2) the financial aid application has been completed on-line and all required tax forms have been mailed to FAST at the address indicated on your application printout.

Are there any income limits when applying for financial aid?
No. Each family’s unique financial situation is considered when assessing need.

  How is financial aid awarded?
Based on the information supplied by the family, the FAST service provides the school with a report that gives the Financial Aid Committee a general assessment of a family's ability to pay for educational costs. The report is used as a guideline for awarding grants.

How does my application affect the admissions process?
St. Agnes Academy does not use financial need as a consideration in determining a student's eligibility for admission; therefore, your application for financial aid has no impact on the admission process. Financial aid decisions are made separately from and independently of admission decisions. The admission decision is made in advance of the financial aid review, and the Financial Aid Committee has no involvement with a candidate being offered a place at St. Agnes.

Do I have to apply for financial aid before I know my child has been admitted?
Yes. If you do not complete an online FAST application by the February 15 deadline, your chance of receiving financial assistance may be significantly reduced. Funds are limited; therefore it is important that all deadlines are met.

What is the deadline for applying for financial aid?
The enrollment must be completed online and complete copies of the 2013 tax returns mailed to FAST by February 15, 2015. Applications received after February 15, 2015 will be considered only if remaining funds are still available.

How do I fill out the application if I am a divorced, separated or single parent?
If the dependents you list in the application will live primarily with you, then you should complete the application based on your income and household expenses. If you have remarried, you will need to complete the application and include information about the stepparent's income, expenses, assets, and debt. The non-custodial parent or joint custody parent must also complete an online application. The Financial Aid committee will use information from both parties in its assessment of financial need.

Who should I list as a Dependent?
You should include all dependents currently living with you or for whom you are providing support. This includes older children attending college or any other relatives who are currently living with you that you provide support.

I do not have my 2013 Federal Income Tax return available because I have filed for an extension. Will my application still be accepted?
We ask that each family applying for assistance provide their 2013 Federal Income Tax return unless you have filed for an extension. If you have filed for an extension, you must send FAST a copy of the extension request, a copy of your 2012 Federal Income Tax return, and copies of your 2013 W-2's.

When will I receive the final decision on the financial aid award?
All accepted new students will be notified of financial aid awards March 13, 2015. Returning students will be notified by April 10, 2015.

Is financial aid automatically renewed each year?
No. St. Agnes Academy requires families to reapply for financial aid each year. There is no automatic renewal of financial aid.

Do I have to repay the grant?
This financial assistance is an outright grant and does not have to be paid back.

Are there financial aid awards for registration fees, summer school, books, uniforms and other costs?
The Financial Aid Committee will award grants for tuition and the required laptop computer only. Occasionally used books and uniforms may be available in limited quantities in late May 2015. Please direct questions to Alicia Scalco at (713) 219-5452.

What if I do not have a credit card to pay the online fee or I cannot afford to pay the online fee?
The non-refundable fee for the application is $41.00 with a MasterCard, Visa or American Express. If you do not have a credit card, or cannot budget the fee, please call Alicia Scalco at (713) 219-5452. FAST notifies parents of the fee on the Instructions page of the application and also in a payment confirmation email, which states the fee is $41, non-refundable, and charged as Independent School Management.

Why am I sending my application to FAST?
St. Agnes Academy has contracted with FAST to process the financial aid applications and provide an objective evaluation of each family’s financial need.

Is my personal financial information shared with anyone in anyway?
No. All information is held strictly confidential and is not shared or disseminated in any way with organizations or outside individuals. Only the Financial Aid Committee will review your application.
