Spring Parent Information Night: "An Evening with an Expert" On Tuesday, April 10th, the college counselors will be hosting "An Evening with an Expert" in the St. Agnes Strake Family Cafeteria at 6:30pm. This year's presenter will be Charles Bachman, Senior Associate Director of Admissions at Lafayette College. He will discuss recent trends in college admissions as they relate to young women and liberal arts colleges and programs. In addition, Mr. Bachman will address how college applications can be evaluated and how the intangibles are considered when making a decision on an applicant. The college counselors will conclude the evening by reviewing our upcoming calendar that includes college counseling related activities and programs we have prepared for your daughter.
Seniors and Wait List I have been wait-listed! Now what? As decisions begin coming in many students are confused, concerned, and unsure of what to do with an offer of the wait list. It is important to remember not to be discouraged by this option. Students offered the wait list are often students that were competitive in the admissions pool but due to space limitations at the time the college or university were not able to accept them. If a student decides to accept the wait list offer she should also update her admissions file with a few items: Send an updated résumé with any new honors and/or awards Send new letters of recommendation Include a short written statement about why you would want to attend the college or university
Students should make sure that this is a top 1st or 2nd choice school so they can honestly convey their desire to attend. Also, keep in touch with the college or university admissions representative responsible for St. Agnes students via email so they are aware of your desire to attend their school.
Junior Students and Parents This is a reminder that parent reflections sheets are still being taken by the guidance department at this time. If you have not had a chance to do this for us, just go to our website, under counseling and you will find the link on the right hand side of the page under spring/summer packet. We have provided you with three different formats to complete this form.
Junior students are reminded that Part A of their reflection sheet is due to us on May 1, 2012. Part B will be released on the website on June 4, 2012. Students are reminded to be thoughtful and thorough when completed both parts of their reflections as this greatly aids their counselor when she is writing their letters of recommendation in the fall.
Madonna Day Information Needed In preparation for Madonna Day, your daughter has been given a "blue form" in her Honors AP Government or Economics class and has been asked to report to the counseling office all scholarship and award offers she has received from colleges. In the Madonna Day program, we will list all of these scholarships (without numeric value). We are asking students to not only list the name and university/college/organization giving the scholarship, but also to provide a copy of the letter to verify the information. Please encourage your daughter to get this form filled out accurately and on time with the appropriate letters to the counseling office. Seniors are asked to return the "blue form" with all verification letters to their social science teacher no later than Wednesday, April 11th.
