  Service Program

Fostering commitment to the community outside of St. Agnes is a crucial part of what we want to impart on our students. Therefore every student is required to complete a Service Learning Project which consists of 100 hours of community service between her Junior and Senior year. These hours of service must address a social justice issue and involve direct interaction with those being served. Most of our students complete their service projects in and around the Houston area but some have travelled to other parts of the country and even outside of the U.S. to do their projects.

In addition to the Service Learning Project, our 9th grade and 10th grade students participate in community service as part of their class retreat. These students go out to local service agencies to lend a helping hand for half a day of their retreat. They work at food pantries, do landscaping work, sort clothes or do whatever is needed to help those in need in our community. In fact, in January of 2009, our entire Sophomore class went to Galveston for their retreat to help with the Hurricane Ike Recovery Effort. More than 200 of our young women served that community by picking up storm debris, cleaning out buildings, sorting through donations and painting walls.

Dominican High Schools Preaching Conference

Each summer, St. Agnes selects and sends 3 student representatives to this national week-long conference. The conference is an annual event that takes place at Siena Hights University in Adrian, Michigan. About 100 students from Dominican High Schools throughout the United States and Puerto Rico attend this conference to learn more about the Dominican Tradition. Our students who attend this conference are called the Preaching Team and they bring back their experience to share with the rest of our student body. To get more information about this conference, please visit their website or contact our Director of Campus Ministry, Martin Nguyen.
