Veritas Award
St. Agnes Academy has honored a graduating senior with the Veritas Award since 1981. In 2004, the Alumnae Board established the Alumnae Veritas Award for academic achievement, service, courage, and leadership. The award is presented each year at the Alumnae Reunion held in June.
The St. Agnes Academy Alumnae Association is now accepting nominations for the 2010 Alumnae Veritas Award. SAA counselor receives school's 2009 Alumnae Veritas Award
Debbie Sieck, a St. Agnes Academy counselor and class of 1987 graduate, is the recipient of the Academy's 2009 Alumnae Veritas Award.
"We are thrilled to give Debbie this award for her tireless work on behalf of the alumnae association, her dedication to her students and colleagues at St. Agnes, and her spirit of volunteerism," said Julie Sacco, St. Agnes' Alumnae Association president.
St. Agnes has honored a graduating senior with the Veritas Award since 1981. In 2004, the alumnae association established the Alumnae Veritas Award for academic achievement, service, courage, and leadership. The award is presented each year at the annual Alumnae Reunion held in June.
After returning to the Houston area in the mid-1990s, Debbie became very involved in the reorganization of the school's alumnae association and later served as the group's president. She joined the St. Agnes staff as a counselor in 2000 and also serves as the head advisor of the school's Student Council.
"I love my job - I enjoy advocating for students, helping support and guide them. There is no better job than that," Debbie said. "To watch the alumnae association and see how much it has grown gives me such a sense of satisfaction. It's continued on and is doing so well."
Debbie is a graduate of Cornell College and received a master's degree in social work from the University of Houston. She is licensed in the state of Texas as a master social worker . She's been an active community volunteer - lending her time to Bo's Place and The Women's Home, among other agencies throughout the years.
"I'm indebted to St. Agnes in so many ways," Debbie said. "I don't know how I my name came up (in discussion of this award), but I am so happy to be recognized by a place I love so much."
