Sustaining tomorrow's promise by fulfilling our legacy today
St. Agnes Academy is today faced with the challenge of maintaining and upgrading our entire 1963 facility for health and safety requirements. Prior to the construction of our new Center for the Sciences and Student Services in 2006, St. Agnes was informed by the City of Houston of a five-year period to bring all of the existing structures up to city code. Once our new building was connected to our 1963 structure, our facility required life-safety upgrades including the installation of a sprinkler system and new fire alarm, and the redirection of the return air system from the hallways. In order to complete these upgrades, we also needed to abate all asbestos in both ceiling and floor tile, replace and upgrade lighting and electrical output to meet technology needs, and update our air conditioning system by replacing air handlers and reconstructing the return-air flow. We are also taking this opportunity to make our campus more energy efficient.
We began the process during the summer of 2008 and have completed all required upgrades to the second floor of our main building, as well as our Strake Family Cafeteria and Robert J. Gallagher Athletic Complex. The entire upgrade project costs $7 million.
