Student Council and the SAC

St. Agnes Academy Student Council Mission Statement
The primary purpose of Student Council is to provide leadership for the student body and to contribute to the spirit and mission of the school. The Council acts as a voice for the student body to the faculty and administration, represents the interests and needs of the students, and takes action to serve the school and wider community. Council members are expected to be role models for other students, to promote religious values, scholarship, citizenship, and leadership. Student Council is integral to the successful operation of the school. |
Student Council consists of 12 elected members from each class and additional non-elected members who have demonstrated pride in and commitment to the school. The goals of student council are to promote unity and spirit within the school and to act as a liaison between the student body and the faculty. Elections are every April, with 9th grade elections in October.
The Student Advisory Committee
The SAC is a committee within Student Council. It is an elected committee of students which serves as a liaison between the faculty/administration and the students. Its purpose is to provide a vehicle for ongoing communication, with the faculty and administration looking for the input of the SAC on issues of concern to students, and the students presenting their concerns and needs to the faculty and administration. The SAC is roughly the counterpart of the Faculty Advisory Committee and will often meet in joint meetings. The overall goal is increased communication and collaborative decision-making.
The SAC consists of two representatives each class from the Freshman and Sophomore classes and three representatives each from the Junior and Senior class. In addition, the student body president and vice-president meet when the SAC/FAC meet jointly. Election of the 9th grade representatives happens on a temporary basis in October each year as part of 9th grade class elections. All other representatives are elected during Student Council Elections in April. SAC members are not eligible to run for other student council or student body offices.
