  Alumnae Veritas Award

St. Agnes Academy has honored a graduating senior with the Veritas Award since 1981. In 2004, the Alumnae Board established the Alumnae Veritas Award for academic achievement, service, courage, and leadership. The Alumnae Veritas Award recipient for 2007 is Janet Kingham Greenwood '57.  Janet is an outstanding example of Veritas in action as a dedicated alumnae volunteer - she co-chaired the Academy's Centennial Year celebration in 2005-2006. Janet is pictured below receiving her award from Alumnae Association President Cindy Carroll Fontno '89 at the 2007 Alumnae Reunion Luncheon.

The Alumnae Board used the following criteria to award this alumna.

Academic Achievement - Graduating from St. Agnes is an academic achievement. Beyond high school graduation, this alum is a lifelong learner who takes the opportunity to add depth and dimension to her life. These opportunities may take the form of an additional or advanced degree, a career change, or the willingness to take on a challenge in a professional setting.

Service - St. Agnes offered each graduate an opportunity to serve others. This alum’s compassion for humanity has made serving other a core value in her life. She may have a "cause", a passion for those in need, or simply notices what is unjust or neglected around her and strives to make it right and good.

Courage - Life requires courage:  courage to face medical uncertainty, overcome self doubt, address relational issues, and maintain beliefs in an overwhelmingly secular world. This alum consistently demonstrates courage in the midst of adversity.

Leadership - A good leader is a role model who positively influences others by her integrity. A leader may be the formal head of a group or may simply be a person who strives to emulate. This alum inspires others to reach beyond the boundaries of what they initially thought they could do.

The Alumnae Board wants to continue the tradition of giving an alum The Veritas Award at each Reunion Luncheon held in June of every year. Please nominate a graduate who has touched your life in a special way by sending a description of how the nominee has lived each of the criteria to tmccarthy@st-agnes.org by April 30, 2008. The Alumnae Board seeks to honor someone who lives her calling to be Christ for others in her every day life. She does not have to be a Nobel Peace Prize winner or the President of a University; she should be someone who inspires you by her life, her dedication, and her spirit. The award will be presented on June 14, 2008 at the Reunion Luncheon.
