ACADEMY NEWS

MORNING AND AFTERNOON TRAFFIC FLOW HELPFUL HINTS
Please note the following helpful hints to ease congestion when dropping off or picking up your student:
• Please pull as close to the administrative entrance as possible when dropping off your student.  Please do not stop in front of the science building as traffic quickly builds up behind you.
• Please stay in the left lane to turn in front of the school. The right lane should be for students going to the back lot.
• Please arrive no earlier than 3:15 p.m. to pick up your student. The school ends at 3:05 p.m. and most students need a few minutes to navigate our halls, go to their locker, and visit with friends before meeting you at the car  The pickup line is starting to back up to Bellaire Boulevard in the afternoon and the police officers will not allow this to happen.
• Feel free to use the auditorium as a place to pick up your student in the afternoon. Use the right lane to pass the line of cars waiting to pick up students at the science building.  Park in a line in front of the auditorium leaving the right lane free for others to pass.
VISITOR PARKING HELPFUL HINTS:
Please note that all numbered parking spaces have been assigned to faculty, staff and students. We have 12 visitor parking spaces directly in front of the administrative entrance at the west side of campus. If these spots are filled please see the police office on duty for assistance. Please do not park in any numbered spot.

RETREAT DATES 2008-2009
As you plan trips for your daughter and your family this school year, please keep in mind the retreat date(s). Retreats are an essential part of your daughter's experience at St. Agnes. Retreats allow your daughter to take a step back from her normal day-to-day activities and have time to reflect on her relationship with God and to build community with her classmates. Because of its importance, retreat attendance is mandatory for all students. Below are the dates for this year's retreats:

9th grade retreat -  All ninth graders attend Opening Retreat Mass on Monday, Oct.13 (3 - 4 p.m.)
9th grade class will be split into 2 groups (A & B)

Group B - Tues. Oct. 14 (3 p.m.) to Wed. Oct. 15 (3 p.m.)
Students will spend the night at SAA. Ninth graders will have the day off on the day that they are not on retreat.

10th grade retreat - Tuesday, Feb. 10 (8 a.m. - 6 p.m. at Epiphany Church in Katy) Buses will transport students to and from church.

11th grade retreat - Wednesday, Nov. 19 (leave after lunch) to
Friday, Nov. 21 (arrive back at 3 p.m.)
Buses will transport students to and from retreat site.

 FROM THE COUNSELORS

All parents should be in receipt of an introduction letter from the counselors.  This is our way of introducing ourselves to our parents as well as informing you of counseling events that pertain to your daughter's specific grade level.

We are currently updating our part of the St. Agnes Academy Web site.  We pride ourselves in keeping all of our families abreast of the many events we host as well as providing information about the college process on the counseling part of the Web site.  Pleas take time to look at all of the information that we provide on the web for you. New to the Web site this year is a timeline developed by Mrs. Rushing. We believe all of our families will benefit from the information provided in the timeline.  Additionally, you will find a guidance calendar outlining the various times we are in the classroom with your daughters.

Nathan Birney, a financial advisor with Ameriprise Financial Advisors, will conduct a seminar for the SAA and SJ community on Tuesday, September 2 at 6:30 p.m. in the SAA Choral Room.  This informative seminar will help you understand financial aid calculations, analyze college costs, evaluate your savings and investment vehicles, and explore a variety of tax implications. This seminar is open to all our parents regardless of the grade level of your daughter. We have found that planning early for college expenses allows families to position themselves more effectively. Please make plans to attend this informative evening Tuesday, September 2.
