What 9th Graders Should Know About SAA Athletics
 SEASONS:
The FALL SEASON offers three sports: Cross Country, Volleyball, and Water Polo.
|
Tryouts for Cross Country, Volleyball, and Water Polo begin August 6, before school starts. Please complete summer vacation plans accordingly if you are planning on trying out for these sports.
FALL ATHLETES: Bring the following completed forms (found on the left menu under 'Team Forms') to your tryout: 1. Permission slip 2. Transportation form 3. Physical
You WILL BE REQUIRED to be in town by August 6 to tryout for FALL Sports. Make plans to vacation, go to camp, or work prior to August 6 if you want to make the teams. If this is absolutely impossible, please contact Lynn Kercheval at lkerchev@st-agnes.org before May 18 to discuss the possibility of a late tryout for freshmen due to unavoidable circumstances.
|
The WINTER SEASON offers three sports: Basketball, Soccer, and Swimming.
|
|
Tryouts begin in mid-October. Basketball teams practice and play over the Christmas break.
|
The SPRING SEASON includes: Golf, Softball, Tennis, and Track and Field. |
Tryouts are in January. The Softball teams are involved in tournaments on/around March 17 (spring break) each year. Plan on playing softball over this weekend of spring break, starting on the Wednesday, preceding the tournaments.
|
PHYSICALS: |
| |
Please plan on obtaining a physical from your doctor over the summer and prior to any tryouts for any sports season. This is especially true for all Fall athletes, but it makes sense to secure your physical should you be a winter or spring athlete only, as the physical will be required for you to tryout for any/all sports.
- Freshmen athletes MUST have a physical in order to participate in sports at SAA.
- Physicals are only valid for one calendar year, so it would be advisable to get a physical over the summer.
- Please download the physician’s form from the SAA website at www.st-agnes.org (click Athletics, then Forms, then Physical).
Do not mail any physicals to St. Agnes that are specific to athletics. Those must be brought in person to each tryout period, regardless of what sport --
- (Fall/Winter/Spring). Parents, hold onto those completed forms until your daughter’s tryout dates.
|
| CAMPS: |
| |
Camps for Volleyball, Basketball, Water Polo and Soccer will be offered this summer. Please refer to the individual flyers in your registration book concerning these camps or you make look them up on our athletic website.
|
| INFORMATION/QUESTIONS: |

SAA ATHLETICS: WHAT, WHERE, HOW? |
| St. Agnes Academy is affiliated with Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS). TAPPS offers a district schedule with a play-off format similar in nature to UIL public institutions. State Championships are acknowledged in a myriad of sports, including cross country, volleyball, basketball, soccer, swimming, golf, tennis, track, and softball. Water polo is run by an independent organization, TISCA, of which St. Agnes Academy is a charter member, and competes towards state play-off competition with public schools.Junior Varsity and Varsity teams are fielded in eight sports, with Volleyball and Basketball also offering a third freshmen-only team. All sports conduct practices each day of the week in which a team is not competing in a game, match, or meet. This generally constitutes three practices per week along with two competitions, or, as in track and cross country, practice is held throughout the week with competitions on Saturdays. Practices are primarily after school, and most are two hours in length. However, the aquatic sports, Water Polo and Swimming, typically start after Strake Jesuit practices, around 5-5:30 starts, if not early mornings depending on the availability of the pool around SJ practice/competitions. Golf and Tennis teams train at various off campus sites. The Water Polo and Swim teams train at Strake Jesuit pool. Our home golf course is undetermined for 2007-08 and the tennis team works out at Lee LeClear Tennis Center . The cross country team trains on campus as well as Memorial Park, Allen Parkway , and other running venues. All other sports practice on campus, or in conjunction with Strake Jesuit. Coaches transport team members to and from practice and competition sites daily. St. Agnes Academy had a little over 300 students involved in the athletic program in 2006-07. An Athletic Fee of $75 is required per athletic participant per sport. We are very proud of our student-athletes who successfully combine the challenges of athletics and academia with equal enthusiasm. | GO TIGERS!
