All St. Agnes students are invited to participate in the SAA Science Fair and if qualifying, then the City of Houston Science and Engineering Fair (http://www.dt.uh.edu/academic/colleges/sciences/naturalscience/SEFH/)

Students decide on a project, talk to their science teacher about it, then begin researching information. A journal of dates for every time work is done in any way on science fair needs to be kept.  A formal discussion of the project with the teacher and the science fair director, Mrs. Flanders, must take place.  

Due dates 

August 18 - September 12, 2008 Sign up for science fair	Discuss project with your science teacher or Mrs. Flanders and get approval for your ideas.
By Friday, September 12, 2008 Get notebook approved by Mrs. Flanders (continue research notes)	Give the teacher your proposal in writing. Divide a notebook into 3 parts and fill in journal as you go ** (see note below)
Thursday, October 30, 2008	See Mrs. Flanders to determine which SRC forms are needed for your project.
Tuesday, November 4, 2008	Turn in completed SRC forms to Mrs. Flanders
Friday, November 7, 2008	Pickup SRC forms - do corrections/changes required. Also pick up city application form.
Monday, November 10, 2008	Return corrected SRC forms to Mrs. Flanders and get notebook approval.
December 2008	Begin work on science project when you receive SRC approval from Mrs. Flanders
January 5, 6, or 7, 2009	Bring notebook to Mrs. Flanders for final approval and check.
Thursday, January 15, 2009	Bring project to school for SAA Science Fair judging.
After winners are announced...	Check for permission to go to the city science fair competition.
Thursday, Friday, Saturday March 12, 13, 14, 2009	50th Science Engineering Fair of Houston (Brown Convention Center, Hall B)

• use a bound book with 3 tabbed sections: JOURNAL, RESEARCH, EXPERIMENT

Extra Credit 

• 2nd quarter -- up to 2 points added to quarter average
• 3rd quarter -- up to 5 points added to quarter average depending on SAA Science Fair ranking at the end of January
• 4th quarter -- if student goes to City of Houston Science Fair, she will receive the same number of points as she did 3rd quarter

Notes:

1. If the student is taking more than one science class she will receive extra points for only one of the classes.
2. Science Fair points added to the average will not be used to determine placement in future science classes.
