COUNSELORS' CORNER
Follow up from 9th Grade Parent Night We enjoyed seeing so many of you at the 9th Grade Parent Night last week. During the presentation, we indicated that we would send you the resources listed on the presentation. The following is the information we discussed with regard to your daughter's laptop computer. Please know that these are just resources not something we are recommending only something you may use if you so choose. These resources were collected as a result of some parent requests.
Parents have many ways to filter unacceptable web content and track usage time. Some options are listed below.
1. Install an Internet filter on your daughter's laptop. The most popular is Cybersitter (www.cybersitter.com) 2. Provide web security for the entire home using their router. OpenDNS home network protection (www.opendns.com). 3. If the parent does not want to filter web content they can track time management on the student computer. RescueTime (www.rescuetime.com/) tracks the user's activity and provides a report of the time they spend on the web. It allows a person to monitor and improve time management."
