Congrats to St. Agnes Academy Congratulations to the St. Agnes Academy community! Last week, an accreditation team from the Southern Assoication of Colleges and Schools (SACS) visited St. Agnes for two days to audit our performance and progress. We are happy to report that St. Agnes received ratings of "highly functional" in all audit categories. Please read below for the commendations and recommendations from the team:
Commendations: • All stakeholder groups - students, teachers, parents, support staff and Board of Directors - take an active part in an inclusive shared decision-making process exemplified through a clearly articulated vision and purpose driving decision making and program development. • The administrative team, led by a visionary and dynamic Head of School, is visible and approachable throughout the campus and at extra-curricular activities. • The school provides a rigorous college preparatory curriculum taught by a dedicated faculty who work to develop the "whole student" while encouraging students to take ownership of their own learning. • The exemplary technology program at St. Agnes Academy is highlighted by the laptop computer system that involves students, teachers and staff. • The school demonstrates a strong commitment to social justice and encourages students to become life-long contributors to society. • The academic success at St. Agnes Academy reflects the school’s philosophy that all students have the right-to-learn in a classroom environment where teachers have the "right-to-teach." • Although only a few teachers are hired each year, even if they are experienced, St. Agnes Academy provides each new teacher with a "Buddy" that leads them through the "teaching philosophy" of the school and ensures a well-balanced and successful classroom experience. • St. Agnes Academy has developed an "Academic Service Center" for students through the support of a faculty committee that recognized the need to help students with learning differences. • Students, teachers, and parents are extremely complimentary of the St. Agnes Academy counselors for being caring individuals that focus on helping the students in the highly rigorous academics and developing the "whole person".
Recommendations: • As the school’s enrollment increases, there is a need to preserve the academic rigor. Teachers are concerned about the disparity of student needs in the classroom which may limit their ability to maintain the high academic rigor that has been the tradition of St. Agnes Academy. • As the school faces a future with no Dominicans on campus, the team supports the initiatives of the school leadership to provide for continued Dominican sponsorship and charism at St. Agnes Academy.
