Final results... SAA Powder Puff Football game a success! The weather was perfect, the tailgate was fabulous, and the volunteer support was beyond expectations.
A huge "thank you" goes out to everyone involved in making this event a success. This includes the SAA staff (especially Brigid Schiro, Debbie Sieck, Mary Louise Berry, the maintenance staff, and Leon Howard); the Dads' Club volunteers for all the work in filling needed roles on the field and at the tailgate; Greg Price for serving as our color commentator; John Gant for communicating the rules to both teams in advance and bringing the officiating team; the SAA Booster Club; Strake Jesuit for allowing us to use the field and facilities; and all the other folks that pitched in on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.
For those who couldn't make it, please don't miss next year. It will shape up to be the best yet!
CHAPERONES NEEDED! We need about 15 parents to chaperone the Junior/Senior Prom on Friday, April 25. We love having dads chaperone as well. Please contact Donna Grehn at dgrehn@comcast.net if you would like to chaperone this event. You wouldn't want your daughter to go to a dance without chaperones, now would you?
Wings to Fly: SAA Mother-Daughter Luncheon and Senior Style Show
Invitations All of the invitations have been mailed. If you have not received yours, please email WingsToFly2008@gmail.com.
Reservations Tables of 10 will be assigned in the order in which the completed, postmarked reservation cards and checks are received at St. Agnes. Reservation cards without checks will be held until payment arrives. Your reservation will be confirmed by email (so be sure to put your email address in the space provided on your reservation card) and any questions about reservations should be directed to WingsToFly2008@gmail.com.
To the Seniors All models need to purchase a ticket for the style show.
The style show producer will assign each model an outfit to model from either Dillard's or Tootsies. Assignments will be made at the producer's discretion and the position of the girls' names in the alphabet will have no bearing on the assignments. All senior girls participating in the 2008 Style Show should note that fittings are scheduled to take place the week of April 21st after school and in the evenings.
Once the fitting times and locations are assigned, senior girls should plan to be at the assigned store 10 minutes before their fitting times. Any girl who cannot meet her scheduled fitting time should arrange to swap with another model who wears the same size and is fitting at the same store. Please let the fitting room moms, Sandy Zeluff and Linda Schroeder, know by sending an email to SAAmodels2008@gmail.com . Each model's outfit will be pulled and waiting for her when she arrives at the store for her fitting appointment. If a model switches fitting times with another model and does not let the fitting room moms know, her clothes will not be available when she arrives for her fitting.
Fitting times and locations will be announced next week. That information will be placed on this web site.
We Need Pink Basket Items Carol Bailey and JoAnn Keller are coordinating the two PINK BASKETS which will be raffled off to the Seniors. They are collecting items for the baskets now. If you would like to make a donation to the baskets please bring anything pink that a college freshman could want, need, or enjoy and drop it off with receptionist Judy Cox - there is a pink basket in her office. If you would rather let Carol purchase an item for you, please make your check payable to St. Agnes Mothers' Club. You can drop it off in the basket in Judy's office or mail to Carol Bailey, 4922 Wigton, Houston, TX 77096.
Be sure to check Tiger Tracks regularly for updates on the Style Show.
Title V Funding Announcement St. Agnes is fortunate to participate in the federally funded Title V program. This program provides the school with additional funds to purchase equipment and materials each year. Traditionally these funds have been given to the Isabel Cameron Library to purchase books and/or equipment. The 2007/2008 funds were used to purchase history and science books to enhance those parts of our collection. We welcome suggestions from faculty, students, and parents on any materials you would like to see the library purchase with future funds. Contact: Herman Sutter, Library Director at hsutter@st-agnes.org.
Admission decisions at the University of Texas (UT) and Texas A&M (TAMU) for the Class of 2008
The counseling department is committed to giving our families as much information as we possibly can about our admissions decisions at the University of Texas and at Texas A and M University. Below is a general overview of the Class of 2008.
The University of Texas at Austin reported nearly 30,000 applications for admission this year. This represents an increase of 9% from 2007. With this record number of applicants, they also received a record number of top 10% applicants. Eighty one percent of all admitted students (fall and summer) were in the top ten percent of their class and 92% of all fall admits were top 10% students.
St. Agnes had 76 seniors requested transcripts and complete applications to the University of Texas at Austin. We had 37 students accepted to the university. Of the 37 accepted, fourteen were top 10% students, 16 were top quarter students, 6 were second quarter students and 1 was a third quarter student . Seventeen of the seniors were offered fall admissions and the other 20 were offered summer admissions. All other students who had complete applications as of February 1, 2008 were offered the CAP (Coordinated Admissions Program) Program. The students who accept this program can attend UTSA, UT-Arlington, UTEP, UT-Pan American, UT-Tyler, UT-Brownsville or UT-Permian Basin, complete 30 hours of course work with a 3.2 GPA and be guaranteed admission to the Austin campus.
Although we have not officially heard from Texas A & M University regarding the number of applications for the fall of 2008, we imagine that they will also report record numbers this year. We do have our internal numbers for the class of 2008. Sixty-five seniors requested transcripts and completed the application process with TAMU. We had 36 students accepted to the school. Of the 36 accepted, 11 students were in the top 10%, 14 were in the first quarter, 9 were in the second quarter, and 2 were in the third quarter. Some individuals have been given a waitlist option. TAMU will admit an undetermined number of individuals from this list in late May. Other options involve the Texas A & M Galveston campus and transfer admission.
If you have any questions regarding the decisions at UT and TAMU, please call or e-mail us. Debbie Skelly, Samantha Rushing and Katy Watts are happy to answer your questions. We hope this information is useful and informative.
