Visitors at St. Agnes All St. Agnes visitors MUST sign in at the front desk with Ms. Cox inside the main entrance of the building. The new student entrance is an entry and exit point for students ONLY. All parents and other guests must sign in at the front desk, as they have in years past.
Attendance Office Procedures To get your daughter out of school early on any given day, you will need to send your daughter to school with a note. She will need to give that note to Ms. Maher in the Attendance Office and get an early dismissal slip. This will allow her to leave her class early, come to the Attendance Office and sign out. If you make an appointment for your daughter during the day that she is not aware of and she needs to be released from school early, you must call Ms. Maher (713-219-5413) in the Attendance Office. **Our procedure is not to call students out of class when you are here, they should have prior notification from their parent(s)** **Our goal is not to interrupt the school day on the public-announcement system to call your daughter to the Attendance Office** If you send a note and are picking up your daughter you DO NOT have to come into the building and sign them out; they may watch for you to drive up and go to your car. If you are anticipating an absence, i.e., wedding, trip, etc., you will need to send a note with your daughter with an Anticipated Absence Form (available from the Attendance Office). Your daughter will have all of her teachers sign the form and return it to Ms. Maher in the Attendance Office.

RETREAT DATES 2007-2008 As you plan trips for your daughter and your family this school year, please keep in mind the retreat date(s). Retreats are an essential part of your daughter’s experience at St. Agnes. Retreats allow your daughter to take a step back from her normal day-to-day activities and have time to reflect on her relationship with God and to build community with her classmates. Because of its importance, retreat attendance is mandatory for all students. Below are the dates for this year’s retreats:
9th grade retreat - Tuesday, October 16 (3 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at SAA) and Wednesday, October 17 (8 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at St. Cyril of Alexandria Catholic Church). Students will be dropped off and picked up at church.
10th grade retreat - Tuesday, February 12 (8 a.m. - 6 p.m. at Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church in Katy). Buses will transport students to and from church.
11th grade retreat -Wednesday, November 14 (leave after lunch) to Friday, November 16 (arrive back at 3 p.m.). Buses will transport students to and from retreat site.
12th grade retreat - Tuesday, March 11 (leave at 8 a.m.) to Thursday, March 13 (arrive back at 3 p.m.). Buses will transport students to and from retreat site.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the retreat program, please contact Mr. Martin Nguyen, director of campus ministry, at 713-219-5434 or mnguyen@st-agnes.org
Phonathon volunteers needed Sign up for the Learning Today, Leading Tomorrow Annual Fund phon-a-thon for a fun-a-thon! You can participate in two ways - one way is to help out and volunteer for one or more of our annual giving evening phone-a-thons. These evenings last three hours - volunteers meet other volunteer parents, have dinner, and reach out to make sure everyone has received their letters from Sr. Jane Meyer, O.P. to ensure participation in our annual giving campaign. The dates are: 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16; 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17; and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2 and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3. The second way we ask parents to help is to remember that volunteer parents, parents just like you, will be making these phone calls on behalf of St. Agnes and Sr. Jane to help our school and your daughters. Current parent George Crawford is leading the way with this year's Annual Fund as chair. Please come and be a part of it - contact Sophia Furnace '78 at sfurnace@st-agnes.org or 713.219.5402.

New club forming at SAA, Amnesty International disbanding on campus The Amnesty International Club at St. Agnes will be disbanded this school year. Amnesty International, at its biennial conference on August 17, affirmed a policy that supports a woman’s right to have an abortion under certain circumstances. While recognizing Amnesty International’s concern that women ".be free from fear, threat, and coercion as they manage all consequences of rape and other grave human rights violations," as a Catholic institution we cannot be affiliated with any group that condones violence against the most vulnerable, defenseless human beings - those in the womb. St. Agnes students and faculty are in the process of forming a new club that will promote human rights in the spirit of Catholic social teaching, affirming the dignity and value of all human life. More information on this club will be forthcoming in the near future.
Habitat for Humanity at SAA needs support The Habitat for Humanity group at St. Agnes is embarking on the ambitious goal of raising $65,000 this school year in order to sponsor a house. Many student fundraising activities are planned for the year.
A Note from the Guidance Department Earlier this week, the guidance department e-mailed each parent an introductory letter. These letters are designed for each grade level and contain pertinent information for that grade level. We hope that you find these letters to be informative and timely. Each of these letters can also be found on the St. Agnes Academy Web site here.
Financial Aid Planning for College Nathan Birney, a financial advisor with Ameriprise Financial Advisors, will conduct a seminar for the SAA and SJ community on Tuesday, Sept. 4 at 6:30 p.m. in the choral room. This informative seminar will help you understand financial-aid calculations, analyze college costs, evaluate your savings and investment vehicles, and explore a variety of tax implications. This workshop is open to all our parents regardless of the grade level of your daughter, so please make plans to attend this informative evening next Tuesday night.
