Student group fasts for Lent; local speaker to discuss human slavery Feb. 26
As part of our Lenten observance this year, students are being invited by the Campus Ministry Team and SAMS Club (Students Against Modern-Day Slavery) to learn more about human trafficking.  Human trafficking is a modern-day form of slavery that affects people throughout the world and right here in Houston.  Throughout Lent, we will pray for the victims and the perpetrators as we learn more about this issue.

The Houston Rescue and Restore Coalition "is a dedicated coalition of 70 Texas and Houston-area non-profits, faith groups, government agencies/entities and others whose mission is to unify the local community to combat the scourge of human trafficking and to improve victim identification and services through education, political advocacy and community organizing." Stephanie Weber, mother of a St. Agnes alumnae and director of the Houston Rescue and Restore Coalition, will come and speak at 8 a.m. Tuesday, February 26 in the SAA Auditorium. Weber and her team will be here to help us learn more about the issue and what is being done. You are invited to attend! Funds raised during Lent through our "penny bomb" as well as the selling of awareness bracelets will be donated to the Coalition.

Sign up for the Learning Today, Leading Tomorrow Annual Fund phon-a-thon for a fun-a-thon! A volunteer commitment lasts three hours - volunteers meet other volunteer parents, have dinner, and reach out on behalf of Sr. Jane Meyer, O.P. to ensure participation in our annual giving program. Upcoming volunteer dates are 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. March 3 and 4. The second way we ask parents to help is to remember that volunteer parents, parents just like you, will be making these phone calls on behalf of St. Agnes and Sr. Jane to help our school and your daughters. Please come and be a part of it - contact Sophia Furnace '78 at sophia.furnace@st-agnes.org or 713.219.5402.

SAA Powder Puff - coming soon!
Football (Powder Puff, that is) in April: For those of you agonizing over waiting months for the football season to begin, your wait is over! The St. Agnes Annual Powder Puff flag football game between the uunior and senior class will be held at the Strake Jesuit field on Sunday, April 6 with kickoff at 1 p.m. The game will be followed with a tailgate where, for a nominal charge, the Dads’ Club will be serving up hot dogs, chips, drinks (and plenty of time to reminisce about 'missed opportunities’ from the game).

Admission to the game is $5 per person (sorry, no student ID accepted). All proceeds will go to the Dominican Mission School in Guatemala. Please bring your friends and neighbors. This is always an action-packed game with a lot of scoring and is a real treat to watch. It’s an event you won’t want to miss and you will be supporting a great cause.

The Dads’ Club is soliciting volunteers to provide a little help before, during and after the game. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Mary Louise Berry at mlberry@st-agnes.org or 713-219-5401.
