Couldn't make it to the Gala this year?
Couldn't make it to the "Magical Mystery Tour" Legacy Gala and Auction Saturday? Well, no need to worry! We have some really groovy sign-up parties this year and you can buy your ticket online today! Dont forget a flip flop or free dress pass for your daughter! This online option will be open for a week, so sign up soon! Click here for more details.

Raise your paddle for SAA Auditorium  lights
Thanks to everyone who attended the St. Agnes Academy "Magical Mystery Tour" Legacy Gala and Auction and made it such a huge and fun success! In case you didn't get to attend the gala or if missed out on all your auction bids, we want to shed a little fresh light in the auditorium. Now, we all know the Beatles were popular in the 1960s, but so were these lights! However, while the Fab Four has withstood the test of time, our auditorium lights have not. Please raise your paddle for St. Agnes and let new lighting come in! Donate by clicking here!

ALGEBRA REVIEW COURSE FOR STUDENTS ENTERING ALGEBRA 2
St.AgnesAcademy offers a thirty-hour, two-week review of major topics in Algebra 1.  This class is designed for those students who need additional instruction and practice on several concepts to have a successful year in  Algebra 2.  The session will run June 9 - 20, 2008.  There is a 50 student limit on a first come basis.  The class is from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.  The cost is $120. Contact your current math teacher or Ms. Thompson for more information.  Registration deadline is March 31, 2008. This class is opened to any student taking Algebra 2 next year and is required for some. Please check your daughter’s Algebra 1 report card comments to determine if she is required to take this class.

SAA Powder Puff - coming soon!
Football (Powder Puff, that is) in April: For those of you agonizing over waiting months for the football season to begin, your wait is over! The St. Agnes Annual Powder Puff flag football game between the junior and senior class will be held at the Strake Jesuit field on Sunday, April 6 with kickoff at 1 p.m. The game will be followed with a tailgate where, for a nominal charge, the Dads’ Club will be serving up hot dogs, chips, and drinks (and plenty of time to reminisce about 'missed opportunities’ from the game).

Admission to the game is $5 per person (sorry, no student ID accepted). All proceeds will go to the Dominican Mission School in Guatemala. Please bring your friends and neighbors. This is always an action-packed game with a lot of scoring and is a real treat to watch. It’s an event you won’t want to miss and you will be supporting a great cause.

The Dads’ Club is soliciting volunteers to provide a little help before, during and after the game. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Mary Louise Berry at mlberry@st-agnes.org or 713-219-5401.

SCHOLARSHIP SCAMS

Every year we have students come to us regarding letters that they have received in the mail regarding scholarships.  These letters are usually invitations to attend a seminar to learn more about how they can help you find money for college.  Under no circumstances should you ever pay anyone to help you find scholarships for college.  St. Agnes Academy maintains a scholarship bulletin site on our webpage.  These bulletins come out 3 or 4 times a year and inform the students of a variety of opportunities to compete for scholarship dollars.

In addition, we recommend using the following websites:

www.collegeboard.com
www.finaid.com
www.wiredscholar.com
www.fastweb.com

Finally, most scholarships received by our students are institutionally based.  When students apply to specific schools those schools can and will make offers of scholarship money based on merit or talent.

We also invite our families to contact us whenever they have questions about scholarships or general college admissions.  It has been our experience that many people want to weigh in on what is happening as far as college admission trends are concerned.  We have found that our students and their families have received misinformation from family friends, test prep companies and the media.  I often think of the Holiday Inn Express commercial that details people becoming experts in certain areas because they spent the night at a Holiday Inn Express.  Please allow us to help you navigate through this process.  It is not only our job but it is our field of expertise.

Attention grades 9-12
Updated summer program opportunities are now available on the counseling Web site.  Once you are on the counseling department’s home page click on the "Summer Programs" link.  Please take a moment to look through the many options available to you.  No matter what your interests, there is something for everyone!

Next Mothers’ Club Meeting is Wednesday, March 5 at 11:30 am in the Fleming Room. Please join us for lunch and a brief meeting! All are invited.

Special Thank yous to Brenda Koch, Mary Louise Berry and their committee volunteers for a GREAT PARTY, the Magical Mystery Tour, the SAA Gala, last Saturday. We danced the night away and SAA reaped the benefits. Thank you to all who made this evening a fabulous success.

Fascinating and informative were the words to describe for Career Day. Tina McCarthy and Suzanne Nelson provided the girls with resources to help them plan for their future years. The guest alumnae panelists were quite stimulating and gave the girls some sound advice.

Thank you to Karen Counter and Colleen Akers for providing A Lenten Day of Prayer for SAA families.  A reflective morning in a beautiful setting..
