2008 Gala Tops the Fun Meter! St. Agnes Academy supporters did "Come Together" beautifully for a night of fun and fundraising at the 2008 Magical Mystery Tour Legacy Gala and Auction. More than 650 parents, alumnae, and friends joined Sr. Jane Meyer, O.P. '57, Dominican Spirit Award recipients the Standish family, Gala Chairs Brenda and Tom Koch, and special guest Cardinal Daniel DiNardo at the annual gala at the Hilton-Americas Houston. Special thanks go to the many talented and energetic SAA volunteers who made the evening so special, the fabulous Remix dance team and Remix Coach Julie Chilton for the pre-dinner performance, and the very entertaining band The Fab 5 who kept the dance floor hopping until midnight. Preliminary numbers show that the gala's gross proceeds will be nearly $450,000, a new record for St. Agnes. Several online sign-up parties still have openings including a dance party, a poker night, a crawfish boil and a BBQ party and those numbers will be included later, so please sign up!

Raise your paddle for SAA Auditorium lights Thanks to everyone who attended the St. Agnes Academy "Magical Mystery Tour" Legacy Gala and Auction and made it such a huge and fun success! In case you didn't get to attend the gala or if missed out on all your auction bids, we want to shed a little fresh light in the auditorium. Now, we all know the Beatles were popular in the 1960s, but so were these lights! However, while the Fab Four has withstood the test of time, our auditorium lights have not. Please raise your paddle for St. Agnes and let new lighting come in! Donate by clicking here!

TIMING AND TEST PREP PROGRAMS
The counselors are busy this time of year with sophomore conferences. Some of our discussion with families center around the question of prepping for the PSAT and SAT. This is a great time to make some general observations about test prep considerations.
All of our sophomores and juniors take the PSAT in mid-October every year. We have two purposes in administering a junior level test to our sophomores. The first reason is that we do believe practice and exposure are good for our students. The second reason is that we do want to identify our sophomores who score well on the sophomore PSAT and ask those girls and their families to consider taking a test prep program before they take their junior PSAT. These students are potential National Merit candidates and we want to do everything we can to help them reach the selection index number that can qualify them for this recognition. We assist those families by sponsoring a test prep program administered by Princeton Review at our school that runs in the fall of their junior year.
It is not our intent to discourage all sophomores from prepping. It is our philosophy to advise parents and their daughter about the best time to prep. Most of our sophomores should wait to do a prep program prior to taking the SAT in the spring of their junior year. Since the PSAT scores are never seen by colleges and universities, we believe that with few exceptions (like trying to get to National Merit numbers), a prep program for the PSAT does not always make sense. We do leave the final decision about this to each and every family.
If you have specific questions relating to your daughter and prepping, please contact her counselor.
