ACADEMY NEWS
Important information regarding Academy transportation
In the wake of the tragic accident that took the lives of parishioners at Vietnamese Martyrs Church earlier this
month, many of our parents have inquired about the charter bus companies St. Agnes Academy uses for school-sponsored
retreats and other activities. The safety of our students, faculty and staff is our top concern on and off
campus, and we work with vendors who adhere to high standards.
We frequently hire buses through Coach USA (Gulf Coast Transportation). You can find more information regarding
their safety and driving records here. Coach USA is certified by the U.S. Department of Transportation and the
U.S. Department of Defense, and they are one of the most insured charter companies in the city. Their drivers are
tested for drug and alcohol use regularly.
Another company we work with frequently, Goodman Bus Company, is inspected annually and receives high marks
from the U.S. Department of Transportation, Houston Police Department and the Harris County Sheriff's Department.
Their company also is one of the most insured in the region.Their drivers are tested thoroughly for drug and alcohol
use. They have one of the top safety records in Houston.
At this time, charter buses that transport school-age students are not required by law to offer seat belts.
However, by 2011 seat belts will be required in all buses, including charter buses. Our own St. Agnes buses are
equipped with both seat belts and fire extinguishers.
Should you have any questions regarding safety issues on campus or with transportation services, please let us
know. Thank you and God bless.

MORNING AND AFTERNOON TRAFFIC FLOW HELPFUL HINTS
Here are some of the more important points to morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. Detailed information
and maps are located on the St. Agnes Web
site.
Morning drop-off
• Please pull as close to the administrative entrance as possible when dropping off your student. Please do
not stop in front of the science building as traffic quickly builds up behind you.
• Please stay in the left lane to turn in front of the school. The right lane should be for students going
to the back lot.
Afternoon pick-up
• Please arrive no earlier than 3:15 p.m. to pick up your student. The school ends at 3:05 p.m. and most students
need a few minutes to navigate our halls, go to their locker, and visit with friends before meeting you at the
car. The pick-up line is starting to back up to Bellaire in the afternoon and the police officers will not allow
this to happen.
• Please do not stop in front of the science building as traffic quickly builds up behind you.
Weekly Mass available during lunch
Join us for Mass during lunch in the St. Agnes Academy chapel every Tuesday. We begin five minutes after the lunch
period begins and will be finished in 20 to 25 minutes. We begin this Tuesday, August 26. All
are invited - it's a wonderful break from the daily grind. Also, starting Tuesday after Mass, the Blessed
Sacrament will be present in the chapel tabernacle.
