About St. Agnes

Our Vision

“Generation after generation, St. Agnes Academy teaches young women how to think and learn, and why Catholic, Dominican values matter.”

Our Bright Future

At St. Agnes, we are driven and energized by our bold vision to provide a transformational experience for the young women of Houston, one where they develop tools and voices to change the world. Over the past 109 years, it has taken the time, talent, vision, dedication, creativity, and generosity of many to provide the rich environment that turns this lofty vision into a reality.

As we chart the course for our bright future, it is once again time to improve our campus home. The Student Life Center is the most ambitious initiative in the history of the school. While we have many campus needs and wants, the Board of Directors and our community have strategically identified the following priorities for our next project.

Our Priorities

List of 5 items.

  • Auditorium and Performance Hall – to seat approximately 1300

Our campus was built for a student body of 400. Today we are a student community of more than 900. Our auditorium has a limited capacity to serve current and future needs for Mass, assemblies, and performing arts. Space and code issues present us with limitations on school-wide gatherings. Renovating the existing space proves cost and space prohibitive.

Upholding our Dominican pillars of prayer, study, community and preaching is a creative challenge for us as we burst at the seams. At St. Agnes, we understand the importance of gathering as one. Whether it’s celebrating Mass together, watching a meaningful Academy tradition like Madonna Day, or cheering on our performers during a great show— we want to offer this experience to all of our community. Together.
  • Student Commons

Though we’ve outgrown our existing auditorium for its current purpose, we understand the value of preservation by utilizing existing space and materials in line with our mission. Transforming the current auditorium into our Student Commons is a clever and exciting step in our big plan.

In 2011, St. Agnes students requested a student lounge and social area, a place where they can grab a cup of coffee and set up their laptop. Our school is a second home for our students, and we want them to feel as though they have a place here.
  • Studio 1906

The current dance classroom is suitable for ten students. It simply wasn’t built for a group which includes Tiger Girls, Remix, Shock, and the Step Team. Furthermore, it was not built for an expanding wellness program with Yoga, Zumba, and Pilates offerings. With the growth of our award-winning dance team, and additions to our dance and wellness curriculums, the need for space has become a challenge for our current program and future growth.

Studio 1906 will also be a multi-functional room that we can use for large gatherings and meetings, a much-needed alternative to our over-booked Fleming Rooms.
  • Additional Classrooms and Practice Rooms

Smart design will allow us to incorporate additional classrooms and practice rooms into this project, removing the temporary building from our field space and providing more opportunities for our speech and debate, drama, and vocal students to perfect their pieces.
  • More Parking – Completed Summer 2015

On a landlocked campus with a growing staff and student body, parking was a serious challenge. Due to space limitations, not all of our students could park on campus, sending some into residential areas or nearby shopping centers and causing safety concerns. With the addition of 125 new spaces, we are noticing a more seamless St. Agnes day.
