Find Your Place at High Schools With Music Programs Like St. Agnes

At St. Agnes, we treat music as one of the core ways for students to develop confidence, discipline, creativity, and joy. It’s an opportunity to:
  • Meet people from every grade and background
  • Build confidence on stage (even if you’re shy at first)
  • Learn from directors who see your potential and push you in the best way
  • Travel, compete, and perform in front of real audiences
  • Express your faith and story through song and sound
Here’s how you can plug into music at St. Agnes through avenues such as chorus, band, jazz, and orchestra.

Singers: Chorus, Christmas By Candlelight, And Varsity Ensemble

If you’re the person who’s always humming in the hallway or singing along to the radio in the car, our choral program gives you a place to turn that love of singing into something bigger.

Mixed Chorus is where many students start. Being part of this ensemble means you will:
  • Learn proper vocal technique and healthy habits for your voice
  • Sing music that ranges from sacred to contemporary
  • Build the basics of sight‑reading and harmony
  • Gain the confidence to sing with and in front of others
As you grow, there are opportunities to step into more advanced and performance‑focused groups.

Christmas By Candlelight is a beloved St. Agnes tradition and a highlight of the school year. Imagine the chapel filled with candlelight, music, and community as students share the beauty of the Advent season in a way that feels peaceful and powerful at the same time.

For students who are ready to push their skills even further, Varsity Ensemble offers:
  • More challenging repertoire
  • Additional performance opportunities
  • The chance to represent St. Agnes at events and liturgies
And if you want one‑on‑one coaching, Voice Lessons are available to help you:
  • Prepare for auditions and solos
  • Strengthen your range and control
  • Discover what makes your voice unique
You don’t have to be a complete singer to start; you just need a willingness to try. Our team can help with the rest, so you can grow.

Musicians: Band, Jazz, And A National Title Story

If you’re drawn to rhythm, brass, woodwinds, or keys, the band and jazz opportunities at St. Agnes might be your home base. One thing that makes us stand out is the way we collaborate: our Band is made up of students from both St. Agnes and Strake Jesuit. That means:
  • Larger, more dynamic ensembles
  • A wider mix of instruments and skill levels
  • A chance to make music (and friendships) beyond your own campus
Through our Instrumental Ensembles and Jazz Ensemble, you’ll:
  • Play music that ranges from classic band literature to modern jazz charts
  • Learn how to listen across a full group and hold your own part
  • Experience the energy of live performance as a team
And when we talk about jazz at St. Agnes, we’re not just talking about what happens in the band room. Jazz is part of a bigger culture of performance and excellence here – on stage, on the field, and on the competition floor.

That’s where our Tiger Girls Jazz Competition team comes in. While Tiger Girls is a competitive dance team (not part of the music program), their most recent National Championship in Jazz is a powerful picture of what it looks like when preparation and passion meet.

For the second time in three years, the Tiger Girls brought home a national title in Jazz after back‑to‑back silver finishes in 2024 and 2025. They also placed 4th nationally in Pom, outperforming 32 other teams from across the country.

We are so proud of this team, which included students from all four classes (freshmen through seniors), and was ready to compete at the highest level and demonstrate excellence as Academy women.

Why does that matter for you as a future musician at St. Agnes? Because it shows you what’s possible here when talent meets coaching and hard work. That same culture – showing up, rehearsing, refining, and performing together – runs through our music and Jazz Competition programs. Whether you’re playing lead trumpet in Jazz Ensemble or second violin in orchestra, you’re part of a community that knows how to aim high and support one another along the way.

Strings: Orchestra And The Power Of Playing As One

If you love violin, viola, cello, or bass – or you’ve always wanted to learn – our Orchestra program gives you space to grow as a string musician.

In orchestra at St. Agnes, you’ll:
  • Work on technique, tone, and musicality with a director who knows how to challenge you kindly
  • Learn how your part fits into the larger sound of the ensemble
  • Perform music that can move an audience from silence to applause in a single piece
For many students, orchestra becomes one of the most grounding parts of their week. It’s an hour where phones are away, worries quiet down, and your entire focus is on watching the conductor, listening to your section, and giving your best to the music in front of you.
