Tiger Athletics

St. Agnes Academy, an all-girl private high school in Texas, has earned 117 State titles in athletics and annually competes against some of the best private and public schools in the state. We offer 12 different sports during three seasons and have more than 500 students involved in at least one of our 36 teams.

Athletics Mission:

The St. Agnes Academy Athletic Department is committed to the total development of our student-athletes. We foster the cultivation of skills that prepare student-athletes for the ultimate competitive challenge: life. Based on the founding principles of the school, St. Agnes Academy implements programs and activities designed to develop intellectual curiosity, to work for social justice, and to act with integrity and compassion.

  • Athletic Physicals

    Athletic Physicals:
Athletic physicals, or Pre-participation Physical Examination, is required annually for anyone trying out for any sport at St. Agnes Academy. For more information on Athletic Physicals, email Head Athletic Trainer Grace.Brewer@st-agnes.org.

We encourage participation in athletics because it offers our students the opportunity to learn important life-lessons such as teamwork, self-discipline, courage, and determination. Participating in high school athletics provides our student-athletes with the chance to develop characteristics that will help them to become more active, higher-achieving, productive members of society. Since we offer a wide variety of programs, our students can find a place where they can apply their personal skills and talents while contributing to our institution’s rich tradition of success.

The Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS), our governing body, promotes a district schedule with a play-off format similar in nature to UIL public school institutions. State Championships are recognized in Basketball, Cross Country, Golf, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Tennis, Track and Field and Volleyball. Water Polo, Lacrosse, and Field Hockey are run by independent organizations that endorse state competitions for the varsity teams.

St. Agnes Academy values the physical, mental, and communal benefits of Athletics. Our coaches, administration, and medical staff are committed to keeping your daughter safe and healthy as she prepares for the upcoming athletic season.

With the guidance of national, state, and local officials, our staff will work to ensure that any athletic participation aligns with all current recommendations. Our policies and procedures will be modeled after the guidelines presented by the National Federation of High Schools, Texas Education Agency, University Interscholastic League, and Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools.

The Athletics Department will continue to communicate with our families via email, the St. Agnes website, and social media. For more information, please email the sport-specific head coach and/or the Director of Athletics, amy.mattes@st-agnes.org.
  • Athletic Fee

Students who are selected to an athletic team will be required to pay a $150 athletic fee per sport each year. Students participating in a third sport, will be exempt from paying a third time.
  • Practices/Off-Season

All sports conduct mandatory practices and/or competitions up to six days a week during their season. This generally constitutes three practices and two competitions per week with some sports also having tournaments and meets scheduled on Saturdays. Practices are held before or after school, and most are one and one half to two hours in length. Athletes are expected to attend off-season work-outs before and after the regular season as scheduled by the head coaches and athletic director.
