St. Agnes Academy
High school can hold a lot at once. Classes become demanding while friendships, activities, and responsibilities keep moving, too. And sometimes you simply have a day when everything feels heavier than usual.
October is Emotional Wellness Month, so it's a good time to remember that caring for your mental and emotional health can include knowing when and where to ask for support.
At St. Agnes Academy, that support is part of everyday school life.
Student Support Services includes both the Wellness Center and Student Success Center, giving students places to work through personal challenges, academic stress, transitions, and the practical demands of high school.
What Can Emotional Wellness Support Look Like?
You do not need to have everything figured out before talking with someone.
The Wellness Center is available when you’re feeling overwhelmed, working through a relationship issue, adjusting to a change, or dealing with stress that is making school harder. Wellness counselors can also help you think through decisions and connect you with other resources when appropriate.
Support does not always have to begin with a long conversation. The Wellness Center also offers a quiet, calming place to reset during the school day, along with individual sessions, small-group meetings, and preventative wellness programming.
The center is designed to provide students with a safe, nonjudgmental, and confidential setting for navigating the academic and personal parts of high school.
Support Is Built Into the St. Agnes Experience
Some wellness support happens before you ever decide to make an appointment.
Freshman Seminar helps students adjust to high school while introducing topics such as time management, organization, stress management, resilience, self-advocacy, relationships, and school-life balance.
The Wellness Center also provides grade-level programming and workshops based on student needs. Those experiences give students a chance to talk about stress, relationships, transitions, and other everyday challenges before a particularly difficult week puts those skills to the test.
Academic Support Can Be Part of Wellness, Too
Sometimes what feels overwhelming starts with the schoolwork in front of you.
The Student Success Center helps students with practical skills such as time management, organization, study strategies, goal planning, self-advocacy, and executive functioning. Students can also work one-on-one with specialists to identify approaches that fit their academic needs.
A clearer plan will not make every difficult day disappear, but knowing where to begin can make the next assignment, deadline, or busy week feel more manageable.
Know Where You Can Turn
October is Emotional Wellness Month, but the resources available to you at St. Agnes are there throughout the school year.
If you want to talk something through, a wellness counselor can be a place to start. If you need a quiet space during the day, the
Wellness Center is available. And when organization, studying, or academic demands are adding to the pressure, the
Student Success Center can help you work through the practical side of school.
You don't have to wait until a difficult day becomes overwhelming to ask a question or use the support around you.
