Spectrum's Photon 8515 Led by Rookie Team Earns Finalist Finish
Spectrum's Photon 8515 robot, built and driven by first-year students, clinched the sliver at the Houston District Event!
Photon 8515 is all about letting new rookies jump right in. Students build, compete, and even drive in FRC matches, rotating through every role so everyone gets experience while leveling up their engineering skills with mentorship from veteran students and coaches.
Competing as the 1st Pick of Alliance 3 alongside captain Blarglefish 1255 and Jersey Voltage 4587, Photon 8515’s clutch autonomous runs and sharp shooting powered their alliance through a tough playoff bracket all the way to the finals.
“Photon students crushed it out there,” said Photon Coach & St. Agnes Academy alumna Mary Nguyen '17. “In the development team’s history, we have never made it this far in a competition. I’m so proud of their hard work and dedication! Winning the Gracious Professionalism Award on top of that is huge — it proves our students showed respect, helped other teams, and kept the right attitude all weekend long. That’s exactly what FIRST is about, and it makes me even prouder of this group.”
